About us

Cullen Medical is the largest independent corrugate box and pulp manufacturers in the UK. Our goal was to bring to market a product 100% manufactured in the UK that meets all the UN requirements for the uplift and disposal of all clinical related waste, tested to a 4G standard. We designed and tested a box to replace plastic and via SMITHERS PIRA obtained the 1st 4G UN certified box and internal bag on the market. We have legally protected our box design so please think twice before purchasing any counterfeit products on offer. We are NHS procurement listed via our partners HPC.

 

Design

We understand that at the very core of our business are the people who use our products daily. By conducting numerous consultations with both NHS staff and other healthcare professionals, our clinical waste containers were designed around the details that matter to you every day.

 

Our starting point was quality and design; a 60% reduction in cost over like-sized plastic bins, box strength, and ease of use are just some of our unique selling points. Not only is our package UN approved, so is the liner that forms part of the package, a first for this type of product.

 

Delivered as a flat pack for easy storage, these UN3291-approved clinical waste containers come with a built in liner and Cullen Medical’s EasyCarry handle.

 

The EnvironBin range are manufactured using approximately 76% recycled cardboard and are to be used for clinical waste, including waste contaminated with infectious products/materials and their residues (not including sharps or unpackaged liquids).

 

Cullen Medical’s EnviroBin range starts with a 25 or 50 litre container and comes in a selection of colours to comply with the Department of Health’s colour coding system for clinical waste.

Unless it can be satisfactorily demonstrated otherwise, all clinical waste produced by healthcare premises is assumed to be hazardous/special waste and must be treated accordingly.  Clinical waste can be hazardous to anybody who comes into contact with it and includes; human or animal tissue, blood or other bodily fluids, excretions, drugs or other pharmaceutical products, used swabs or dressings, used syringes, needles and other sharp instruments.

 

Clinical waste can also include any other waste that could pose a risk of infection and may be produced by a medical practice; nursing, dentistry, veterinary operations, pharmacy, investigative research, treatment, care, teaching, research facility and also through the collection of blood for transfusion.

 

Our Cullen Medical container range is suitable for these aforementioned clinical waste types excluding unpackaged liquids, used syringes, needles or other sharp instruments and is an appropriate certified UN3291 labelled rigid container manufactured to the highest UN and UK regulatory standards.

Delivered as flat packs for easy storage, Cullen Medical Pharmaceutical Waste bins come with our EasyCarry handle, are manufactured using up to 76% recycled cardboard and are to be used for the disposal of Pharmaceutical Waste. These containers are blue colour coded in accordance with Department of Health guidelines.

 

Our bins are UN 4G certified for the transportation of clinical waste. They are manufactured and tested entirely within the UK and are the first UN 4G approved waste bins to come with a liner that has also been UN approved.

 

Our goal in developing these bins was to improve significantly upon the quality and design of existing clinical waste disposal options. The outcome is a strong, simple to use, much more environmentally friendly and sustainable bin which is up to 60% less expensive than current plastic options.

 

Cullen Medical Pharmaceutical Waste bins are suitable for Pharmaceutical Clinical Waste as classified under European Waste Catalogue codes 18 01 09, 18 02 08 and 20 01 32. This includes expired, unused, contaminated and spilt pharmaceutical drugs, contaminated packaging, products and items used in the handling or administration of these medicines. They are not suitable for cytotoxic or cytostatic waste, used syringes, needles or other sharp instruments.

The FemiBox will completely change the way we approach the female hygiene waste market.  No more costly imported plastic containers that need expensive purpose-built vehicles and costly labour-intensive methods to ensure a clean change over. The FemiBox will ensure that once full, the material is quickly and easily disposed of.

 

The Cullen Medical FemiBox has been designed, manufactured and tested entirely within the UK, being of corrugated paper construction, it is one of the few manufactured products that are inherently sustainable.

 

Delivered as a flat pack for easy storage, our bins come with Cullen Medical’s EasyCarry handle, are manufactured using approximately 51% recycled cardboard and are to be used for the disposal of Non-Hazardous waste.

Box contains a liner to absorb up to 1.6 litres of fluid.

No more bags, cleaning of units and maintenance of bins.

Once locked for disposal, boxes can be stacked to maximise volume of units in waste collection vehicle - no more specialised vehicles needed for bin rotation.

Waterproof coating applied to both inner and outer surfaces.

Design of box will clearly identify waste type being non-hazardous female hygiene waste with EWC code 180104, 200199 or 200301 (dependant on source of waste and weight).

Box will be brightly coloured and can carry any company logo and contact details.

Lid of box will contain a plastic handle and will easily accommodate weights of up to 5 kilos per unit.

There will be a range of accessories to accompany the box (stands and scented bags)

Sizes: 13 litres usable (total 18 litres) 20 litres usable (total 25 litres)

Huge savings can be achieved through difference in cost compared to costly plastic units, maintenance of said units, no need for the purchase of tiger striped bags or staff to maintain and change said bags and once collected , the FemiBox can be taken straight to licensed landfill for disposal, placed with other non-hazardous waste or if under 7kg in weight, placed in the black bag waste stream.
